This certified sustainable vineyard was planted in multiple blocks, one in 1916 and the others in 1945 and 1965 to an own-rooted head trained system in loose, sandy loam soils. Thick trunks and gnarled vines of this age tend to have low productivity, but the fruit it does produce is highly intense, translating into powerful and concentrated wines that echo the uniqueness of the vineyard. The fruit was hand harvested and carefully brought from California to the east coast where we start the winemaking process by separating the stems from the berries prior to fermentation. Fermentation on the skins to complete dryness took 14 days, and the batch was then pressed to barrel, separating the wine from the skins and seeds.

The final blend saw the inclusion of 8% Petite Sirah to bolster the tannic structure and framework. Aged in 35% New Hungarian Oak, 10% New French oak, and 55% Neutral Barrels for 19 months prior to bottling in May of 2018

Winemaker's Tasting Notes

A brooding, dark dense nose with a deep color and sweet aromatics. Big and lush ripe fruit, some dried, some not. Vanilla, mocha and strawberry pie with oak and smoke poking through on the finish. Dried herbs and a hint of nutmeg round out the complexities. Drink now through 2022
